Painting the town (RED)$BlogItemTitle$>

This Valentine's day, English contemporary artist
Damien Hirst and U2's lead singer and co-founder of the (RED) project
Bono team up to bring together the biggest names in contemporary art for AIDS relief in an art auction at
Sotheby's New York. More than 60 "art stars" such as
Takashi Murakami,
Andreas Gursky, and
Banksy contribute some of their artworks for the auction, where all proceeds the sale will go to to the United Nations foundation to support AIDS/HIV relief in Africa.
"Art can enjoy a messianic complex. It avoids and courts in unexpected places...it loves the company of the lost, the damned, the dispossesed, the subject no one wants to talk about...Art imitates and needs reaction. All of the pictures and sculptures here are grace unbound and a reaction from the greatest artists to AIDS - our generation's holocaust." - BonoYou can check out the artworks that will be auctioned
here, and if you're really generous (and have a lot of cash in your hands) you can place a bid as well. =P
